Background/Rationale

±    Research plays a crucial role in development, and it is the basis of planning and policy formulation

±    The need to improve the research networking in the region then is utmost to support planning and policy formulation
        
±    One of the major mechanisms for research activities in the region that  the RDC Region 1 has adopted was the conceptualization of the Knowledge Networking Project (KNP)

±    The KNP is considered as one of the most feasible networking and implementation mechanisms for research activities in the region

±    With the need for research management that is responsive to planning and policymaking, it is urgent to implement the Region 1 Knowledge Networking Project (KNP)

Objectives

The  KNP is a major key intervention of the region -

General
±    To serve as an instrument for more responsive development planning and policymaking

Specific:
±    To further improve and strengthen R&D in the region

±    To foster sharing of development knowledge with all stakeholders of planning and policy formulation particularly of the region

±    To provide easy access to various researches conducted in the region

±    To promote on-line collaboration between and among knowledge generators and knowledge users in the region

±    To promote closer coordination between and among research institutions

Project Description

±    The KNP is the regional infrastructure/mechanism for knowledge management for development planning and policy formulation

±    The on-line research information system was designed as the main repository of on-line research-related information in the area, which would be uploaded, in the on-line portal of the RDC - http://www.ilocos.net.ph

±    The KNP will not only involve on-line research-related information but will also include other major research programs/projects and activities of the region along planning and policy formulation

±    The on-line research project or the KNP will form part of the main modules of the on-line Ilocos region portal www.ilocos.net.ph and can also be accessed from the NEDA Region 1 website ( www.neda1.net). The  URL of the KNP  is: http://www.ilocos.net.ph/KNP.
